Our trip to Jersey from June 14 to June 22, 2008 Wednesday, June 18 ![]() ![]() We start at 9 a.m. and go by HD Ferries from St. Helier to St. Malo in roughly 70 minutes. At St. Malo, our coach is already waiting for us and the other passengers, mainly people from Jersey in their mid-50s who want to spend a funny day eating cheap oysters. ![]() Our first destination is Cancale, the oyster metropolis on the west coast of St. Malo. You can get a dozen of fresh oysters for 5 € only. It might not be everyone’s favorite, but you should taste them, especially when they are as fresh as here. ![]() After our visit at the harbor, we head to our primary destiny: Mont St. Michel (show in Google-Earth / KMZ-file). This impressive building was erected within the flat coast area on a riff. Quite as impressive as the building is the number of tourists coming to this place – comparable to Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. This part of our trip is one of our highlights. Story goes that the “Lord of the Ring” designers got some inspiration for their movie fortresses from Le Mont St. Michel. ![]() We stay on the French mainland for about 3 hours before we go back to St. Malo where we have enough time to explore the beautiful city. St. Malo offers a wide range of great cuisine than Jersey. In the evening, we go back to Jersey by catamaran. Unfortunately, there were heavy seas and we are both happy to come home and get in our beds. |
