Our trip to Jersey from June 14 to June 22, 2008 Thursday, June 19 Today is our museum’s day. First we go to Jersey Museum, then we visit Maritim Museum in the harbor of St. Helier. This is where “Occupation Tapestry” is shown, a very interesting project that displays the cooperation between the island’s inhabitants on the anniversary of the end of the occupation. Men and women from all municipalities of Jersey embroidered 12 impressive tapestries with scenes from the occupation. Local author Jack Higgins’ work has been displayed during our visit at a special exhibition – we took our sunglass photo here. After our extreme tour through the museums, we rested in “Dix-Neuf” on Halkett Street near Central Market, a really nice bistro we can fully recommend. In the evening, it was soccer time. It is the European soccer quarter-final and it is Germany against Portugal. After the game, there are many sad Portuguese who are the biggest minority group on Jersey next to Polish people. Yet, Polish minority is growing as can be seen in the many “Polski Sklep” stores which focus on the supply of Polish people. |
